Los Angeles, CA (March 4, 2010) – Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports
Net (FSN) and Fox Soccer Plus will feature blanket coverage of the UEFA
Champions League Round of 16 second leg, with eight live and exclusive
English-language match telecasts in high-definition from March 9 through 17.
Knockout stage coverage from the world’s most prestigious club soccer
competition resumes with UEFA Champions League Pregame on Fox Soccer Channel,
presented by Geico live at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 9. Featuring a breakdown
of the day’s up-coming action from expert analysts Warren Barton and Bobby
McMahon, the 30-minute pregame show will be simulcast on FSN each Tuesday
matchday and on Fox Soccer Plus each Wednesday matchday for the remainder of the
tournament.
Round of 16 second leg match action heats up with FSN’s coverage of FC Porto
traveling to London to take on Arsenal, which needs to rebound from a 2-1
setback in Portugal last month. Also on March 9, Fox Soccer Channel offers fans
an exciting showdown between Fiorentina and Bayern Munich. The German giants
take a 2-1 lead into the second leg, and will look to hold off the upstart
Italians.
Coverage continues Wednesday, March 10 on Fox Soccer Channel with arguably the
most intriguing match of the round, as David Beckham returns to his old stomping
ground – Old Trafford – as a member of AC Milan. The Rossoneri have no easy
task, with English heavyweight Manchester United scoring a 3-1 victory at the
San Siro last month. Meanwhile, Fox Soccer Plus brings viewers seven-time French
champion Olympique Lyonnais looking to complete the upset of Real Madrid after a
surprise 2-1 win last month. Although the Spanish Galacticos now have the home
field advantage, they will be hamstrung without the services of suspended
Marcelo and Xabi Alonso.
Live UEFA Champions League coverage picks up on Tuesday, March 16 as FSN
features another homecoming on English soil. Colorful coach José Mourinho leads
his Inter Milan side into Stamford Bridge, where he previously guided Chelsea to
consecutive Barclays Premier League titles in 2006 and 2007. During their
opening-leg clash in Italy, Mourinho bested his former club as Inter scored a
2-1 win. The same day, Fox Soccer Channel offers fans a rematch of the 1-1 draw
between Sevilla and CSKA Moscow, with the Russians needing to score at least one
goal in Spain to stay alive.
The Round of 16 concludes Wednesday, March 17 with two matches, including Fox
Soccer Channel’s coverage of FC Barcelona vs. Stuttgart and Fox Soccer Plus’s
telecast of Olympiacos hosting Bordeaux. On FSC, reigning champion Barcelona
returns to Camp Nou with the goal of advancing following a 1-1 draw in Germany
last month. On Fox Soccer Plus, Bordeaux has the luxury of a 1-0 victory in
Greece during the opening leg, and is poised to reach the UEFA Champions League
quarterfinals for the first time since 1988.
