Fox Sports en Español Dominates 2010

Hispanic Sports Network is No. 1 in Prime Time

Los Angeles – June 14, 2010 – Fox Sports en Español (FSE), the country’s top Spanish-language sports brand, is the no. 1 Hispanic cable sports network in prime time in 2010, and was no. 1 for the six consecutive weeks leading up to May 30. The network has also experienced tremendous year-to-year prime time and total day ratings growth in households and several key demographic categories.

Much of the growth is driven by FSE’s first-year coverage of the UEFA Champions League, as well as viewership growth for Mexican League Soccer and the network’s flagship commentary program, Tribuna Fox Sports.

“These ratings numbers clearly validate our mission of providing consistent sports coverage, with the best analysis, of any Hispanic sports network,” said Raul de Quesada, senior vice president and acting general manager of Fox Sports en Español. “Our commitment to bring viewers on-the-ground coverage is consistent with the programming that keeps them tuning in to our network.”

Building on its programming commitment to televise big sports events and original programs, FSE’s growth in prime-time viewing during the second quarter of 2010 is up +30% (0.79 vs. 0.61) in household rating, +32% (0.49 vs. 0.37) in Men 18-34, and a huge +82% (0.69 vs. 0.38) in Men 35-54 compared to January to May 2009.

The surge in year-to-year prime time ratings is paying significant dividends in the nightly rankings. So far in 2010, FSE has ranked as the #1 Spanish language sports network in prime time 19 out of 23 weeks, including six straight weeks (4/19-5/30/10). In fact, FSE’s performance is strong enough to make it the #3 network in prime time among all Spanish language cable networks for the 2010 season to date.

FSE’s growth story isn’t just limited to prime time as total day ratings are also posting strong year to year gains. Second quarter to date, the total day rating is up +46% in households (0.57 vs. 0.39) and a solid +53% (0.29 vs. 0.19) in adults 18-49, which is important to advertisers. Key male demographics in total day have also experienced growth with Men 18-34 up +42% (0.37 vs. 0.26) and Men 35-54 up +67% (0.45 vs. 0.27) versus the second quarter of 2009.

The growth in prime time and total day ratings are translating well in the weekly Spanish cable sports program rankings as typically FSE occupies at least half of the top ten weekly slots. For example, during the week of May 17, FSE had 6 of the top 10 programs including a Copa Libertadores match featuring fan favorite Chivas at #1; the UEFA Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan at #2; and Tribuna Fox Sports at #5.

Two weeks ago, for instance, the International Friendly soccer match between Mexico and England gave FSE the week’s #1 and #2 Spanish cable sports programs, with the live match at 3pm ET pulling in a 2.98 HH rating. Later that same evening, the encore presentation did even better, averaging a 3.11 HH rating and 270,000 viewers. Overall, FSE was #1 in households (0.73), total viewers (64k), adults 18-49 (0.41), men 18-34 (0.62) and men 35-54 (0.51).
