Los Angeles, Calif. (July 21, 2009) – Spanish league
heavyweights FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will take center stage on Fox
Soccer Channel in early August, as the storied clubs play a series of three
highly anticipated matches on U.S. soil as part of an eight-day bonanza of
live soccer programming on the network.
The action gets underway on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. ET with MLS Saturday
on FSC, featuring a showdown between the Houston Dynamo and D.C. United.
This sets the stage for Fox Soccer Channel’s live and exclusive
English-language telecast at 10:30 p.m. ET of the match between reigning
UEFA Champions League titlist Barcelona and David Beckham and the Los
Angeles Galaxy from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
The following Saturday, Aug. 8, seven-and-a-half hours of continuous live
soccer coverage on FSC begins at 5:30 p.m. ET with a pair of MLS Saturday on
FSC inter-conference clashes: the New England Revolution vs. LA Galaxy
followed by the San Jose Earthquakes hosting the Columbus Crew at
Candlestick Park in San Francisco. FC Barcelona will then complete the
tripleheader in San Francisco, facing Mexican powerhouse Chivas de
Guadalajara in the final match of Barca’s U.S. tour. It will be a rematch of
the teams’ August 2008 showdown in Chicago, when the Catalan giants toppled
Chivas 5-2. Pregame coverage starts at 10 p.m. ET.
Sunday, Aug. 9 sees the final game of Fox Soccer Channel’s international
summer series, when Real Madrid fans in the U.S. will get their first look
at the club’s two big name off-season acquisitions, Cristiano Ronaldo and
Kaká. The nine-time UEFA Champions League winners will take on D.C. United
at Fedex Field in Landover, Md. Live coverage of this exciting match-up
